Upon returning to Russia Bellingshausen put the results of this Antarctic expedition, which was the greatest one in the 19th century, in his book Double Investigation of the Southern Polar Ocean and the Voyage Around the World that was published in 1831 and then repeatedly republished.

The Rear Admiral Bellingshausen participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1828-1829. In 1839 I he became the military governor of Kronstadt, where he died on January (13) 25, 1852. The sea near the coast of Antarctica, islands in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans and the Aral Sea were named after Bellingshausen.
