Aluminum companies fight for the first place in production

The English-Australian mining company Rio Tinto has received all necessary documents and permits to conclude an agreement on acquisition of the Canadian aluminum manufacturer Alcan for $38.1 billion, reports Reuters.

The redemption offer expires 23 October. Rio Åinto and Alcan may form the world’s largest aluminum producer, if they reach an agreement. In this case Rio Tinto expects to raise its aluminum production from 9 to 32%.

If the new company is established, United Company RUSAL will no longer be the world leading aluminum manufacturer.
