The studies will predict the risk of permafrost melting in order to reduce the danger of a greenhouse effect in the future.
Russian scientists from Tomsk are going to implement a new project in Western Siberia. A network of research stations and sites will be founded to study permafrost, the press service of the Tomsk State University reports.
"Western Siberia is an ideal area for such research, since there are different climatic zones from the semi-deserts and steppes to the arctic tundra here. Continuous monitoring carried out out of the vast area from the Bolshezemelskaya tundra, through Western and Central Siberia to Eastern Siberia, will promptly record new trends in climate change and landscape, while avoiding errors ".
