The Marine Biobank Resource Center has started working at the National Marine Biology Department of the Far Eastern Branch, RAS in Vladivostok. A modern cryogenic storage facility for the preservation of cellular material has been built in the Primorye Oceanarium.

      "This ultramodern cryoreservoir can store cell samples at temperatures from minus 80 to nearly minus 200 degrees, whereas automated storage systems for bio samples and a scanning probe microscope enable scientists to get digital three-dimensional images of cells. The state-of-the-art biobank will also keep embryos and larvae of rare marine inhabitants. The equipment makes it possible to study the genome of marine mammals and other biological species, including those on the verge of extinction” – the scientists explain.
