BLUE LAKES (GOLUBYE OZERA) NATURAL PARK
The blue lakes of Kamchatka is a natural site of high significance, which is very popular among tourists during all seasons. However, the most unforgettable view opens here when ice-flows begin to melt. These water reservoirs are called azure because of their charming bright blue hue. The cascade of lakes (there are 3 lakes here) are located at an altitude of 600 meters above the sea level.
The famous blue lakes of Kamchatka became known in 1960, when the first researchers of the Soviet Union arrived there. Why are they blue? The secret hides in ice-flows, which are in the immediate vicinity of the reservoirs. Thanks to the crystal clear water of lakes and ice particles, located on their bottom, the water just glows blue. Such an ultramarine color is achieved due to the refraction of the sun rays.
When to go: if you travel to the peninsula for the sake of this "miracle", then you should get a ticket and take a vacation in July - August, when the ice-flows are melting.
Location: 21 km from Elizovo. The park covers an area of 47 thousand hectares in the valley of the Polovinka River. It is the smallest park in Kamchatka.
What to see: three picturesque lakes lying in an ancient moraine at an altitude of about 600 m above the sea level. The shores of these fish-free lakes are covered with cedar and alder prostrate trees. .Since the park is very close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Elizovo, many tourists come here. The ecological path starts from the mountain-skiing complex "Gora Moroznaya" and has a length of 15 km.
How to get there: you can get to the mountain-skiing complex "Gora Moroznaya" from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky or from Elizovo by minibus or taxi. A special permission to visit the park is not required.
