The literary journey through Arkhangelsk Oblast.

Arkhangelsk Oblast is a fount of literary talents. During many centuries it gave birth to famous writers and poets, eminent writers came and lived here. Literary journeys will help visitors to take a look at this region from a new angle.

Literary journeys are an extraordinary mix of cultural, educational, and ethnographic tourism. Such trips are not limited to inspection of the places where writers and poets lived. This is an opportunity to comprehensively assess the cultural and natural environment where great works of literature were created.

Many literary routes in our region have already been tested for many years and are well known. Others have appeared only recently, but are already popular and loved by tourists.

In 2015 the region will celebrate several literary anniversaries, you can precisely time your trip to Arkhangelsk Oblast to them. The 95th anniversary of the birth of F.A. Abramov is widely celebrated in Pinezhye and in the regional centre this year, so tours to Verkola, the birthplace of the great writer, are especially actual.

A new guided tour “Through the Pages of “Brothers and Sisters” is also opened in the Verkolsky House-museum of Fyodor Abramov. The Museum of Joseph Brodsky in the village of Norinskaya in Konoshsky District will open to the 75th anniversary of birth of the poet, in April 2015; a memorial room of the poet is already open in Konosha now. The tourist route to the places associated with the exile of Brodsky is also interesting and entertaining and is called “The Village that Inspires”.

The regional festival named after Kozma Prutkov, a literary character created by the writer Alexei Tolstoy and Zhemchuzhnikov brothers, will be held in Solvychegodsk in July, 2015. There are various routes to the birthplace of M.V. Lomonosov, this year it will be possible to visit Lomonosovo and Kholmogory during a river cruise on the unique ship “N.V. Gogol”.

The festival “Malinova Uima” dedicated to the creative works of the famous fairy-tale writer Stepan Pisakhov will take place in August. In 2015 Arkhangelsk Oblast will celebrate the 75th anniversary of birth of Vladimir Lichutin, the 160th anniversary of birth of the White Sea story-teller A.M. Kryukova, the 135th anniversary of birth of A. S. Green.
