New hostel to open in Moscow
March 21, 2011 13:32

Moscow is one of the most expensive European cities, so cheap accommodation is a rare thing. However, hostels with moderate prices (in comparison with hotels) exist in the center of Moscow.

The opening hostel is to be the biggest in the city - it will offer budget accommodation to 153 guests! The adress of new hostel is Stolyeshnikov lane,11. It is ridiculous, that this street in 5 minutel walk from Kremlin is one of the most expensive in Moscow. However, announced prices are EU20-25 by night. Hostel will be managed by "Vash Otel" company.

At the moment there are about 10 hostels in the Russian capital. The best ones are Godzillas and Napoleon. They were open by the foriegners who managed to get all the possible permissions, found premises, repared them and hired staff.

Godzillas hostel is situated in Bolshoi Karetnyy 6, the nearest metro stations are Tsvetnoy Bulvar, Tverskaya and Pushkinskaya. Most of Moscow tourist attractions are situated in walking access. This hostel is the largest from existing ones and the oldest: it is called the first independent hostel open in Moscow on the Godzillas website. It is well-known abroad because it was featured in The New York Times, Newsweek and The Daily Telegraph. Its management was called the best in Moscow in the Lonely Planet 2009. The hostel offers the following range of rooms: Single rooms (double bed), Twin Rooms (2 single beds), Triples, 6-Bed Female Dorm and Mixed Dorm Rooms (4-Bed to 10-Bed). Godzillas is English owned and American run. The stuff spaeks English.

Napoleon hostel is situated in the district of Kitay-Gorod with its cheracteristic small churches and merchant's houses. The address is Maly Zlatoustinsky lane, 2 at the 4th store. The nearest metro station is Kitay-Gorod (2 minutes walking). Among the tourist attractions situated next door are Tretyakov Gallery (one metro station), Red Square (5 minutes walking), Bolshoy Theatre (7 minutes walking), Pushkin Museum of fine arts (15 minutes). Accommodation priced vary depending on the season. The hostel does not provide single and double rooms.

Moscow Home Hostel is situated near famous “Old Arbat” street, next door to Red Square, Kremlin: Moscow, 1/12 2-nd Neopalimovsky lane. Hosted is advertized as one located in really safe area — on the small street in close vicinity to 3 embassies! Owner of the hostel is also a foreigner. Moscow Home Hostel offers big and cheap dorms. All together, there are 88 places in it. 16 of them are comfortable private rooms, 68 places are in dorms (from 6 to 14 places), which cost from EU12. However, this hostel has one lux room, with shower and toilet inside.

Generally, Moscow hostels are actually flats for rent and they cost EU 17 - 25. This is not cheap for hostel, but very morderate for Moscow. Services in Moscow hostels are standard and include free Wi-Fi, and common services like ordering taxi and booking railway tickets, for Trans-Siberian Railway as well.

Hopefully, it will be more hostels in Moscow. There are many Russians, staying in hostels and being satisfied with a result: In Moscow, it is very important to stay in the center, not to spend too much time in metro and traffic jams.
