Alexander Park (Russian: Aleksandrovsky Park)

One more park of the central city district of St. Petersburg was named after Emperor Alexander I, although, according to historical chronicles, the emperor himself only had enough time to plan the placement of green spaces on this territory. The emperor’s plans were implemented by his successor Nicholas I.

According to another version, the park was named in honor of Alexander Nevsky - a prince and a legendary commander, a saint of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Alexander Park is a place for a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is located in the district that is rich in sights and places of interest, so tourists can walk in the vicinity of the park, visiting the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Zoo, the Music Hall and Planetarium, the Monument to the “Steregushchiy” torpedo boat.

Interesting places and features

Today, Alexander Park is much richer in sights than in the 19th century. Many of them appeared recently, but have already become sincerely loved by the guests and residents of St. Petersburg.

Petersburg in miniature - a mini model of St. Petersburg. In 2012, a stunning miniature exhibition of the city appeared on the territory of the park. The main sights of St. Petersburg are represented in  bronze and granite on an area of 2 hectares in natural proportions and a scale of 1:33:

St. Isaac's and Kazan Cathedrals
Savior on Spilled Blood
Peter-Pavel's Fortress
Admiralty
Stock exchange
Granite arrow with Rostral columns
Hermitage with Palace Square
Mikhailovsky Castle
Senate and Synod building

All exhibits are made according to real drawings and photographs. The sculptor is A. Taratynov, and the sponsor is Gazprom. While work was underway, everything was kept secret from the residents and guests of the northern capital: they learned about the exposition only at the opening.

Monument to the Architects

Someone is sitting, someone is standing, but it is clear that everything is in motion and dialogue. Each architect depicted made a huge contribution to the architecture of St. Petersburg:

A. Voronikhin: Kazan Cathedral
T. de Thomon: arrow of Vasilievsky island
V. Bazhenov: Mikhailovsky Castle
O. Montferrand: St. Isaac's Cathedral
D. Trezzini: Peter and Paul Fortress
C. Rossi: Laval Headquarters
A. Zakharov: Admiralty
Rastrelli: Winter Palace, Smolny Convent

There is an interesting attraction on the territory of the park itself - Mini-City opened in 2011: bronze Saint Petersburg in miniature on a scale of 1:33.

In summer, you can do yoga for free in the park: these weekly morning events are held by activists year after year.
