“Yandex” brought the Federal Supervision Agency for Information Technologies and Communications to justice: by the decision of the latter, five IP-addresses of the company were blocked on the night of April 27. The official position of the company was announced in the Telegram-channel “Yandex Zen. Kitchen”.

The PR Director of “Yandex” Ochir Mandzhikov called attempts to block Telegram affecting other web sites “an unexpected blow to the entire Russian Internet”. “The blocking affected not only the messenger: many Internet resources and their users suffered. We do not consider this situation to be normal. The Russian market can be developing only under the conditions of open competition. Restricting access to global and Russian Internet services will primarily harm Russian Internet. We consider the lack of freedom and choice for users to be the most dangerous consequence of the blocking” - the statement said.

The absence of openness and competition on the domestic market leads to a drop in the quality of products, which affects ordinary users, as “Yandex” noted. In addition, this situation deprives the country of the possibility of technological competition on global markets in the future, as the company believes.
