Most Russians Don't Notice Economic Improvement

About 39 percent of Russians reported about deteriorating of personal wealth in the fourth quarter, only 9 percent noticed improvement.

This was reported by Rambler News Service with a reference to the Institute of Statistical Research and Economics of Knowledge of HSE. At the same time, the deterioration of the material situation in the next 12 months was expected by 23 percent, and improvement - by 11 percent. A somewhat negative attitude towards the changes in the Russian economy has decreased during the previous quarter.

Negative assessment was received from 50 percent of the respondents against 52 percent a quarter earlier.

Positive changes in Russia’s economy in a year are expected by 20 percent, negative ones - by 27 percent (in the third quarter this figures were 18 and 29 percent respectively). According to the data of the Federal State Statistics Service, the consumer confidence index rose by one percentage point in the fourth quarter, as compared to the previous quarter — it fell down to minus 18 percent.

At the same time, Russia’s position in the ranking of European countries conducting consumer confidence research by a methodology similar to that of Rosstat deteriorated at the end of the year 2016. Russia once more took the third place from end of the ranking, only Greece and Bulgaria were below it in.

On January 17 the Head of the Ministry of Labor Maksim Topilin said that population incomes would grow. “According to the results of the year 2016, we will most likely see a rise in real wages, because a positive tendency to their increase showed already in August” - he said.
