From 11 to 16 April, 2017 the Central House of Artist will host a multimedia project by the Russian Fashion Council as part of the First Moscow Design Biennale. The First Moscow Design Biennale is a big-scale project launched by the Central House of Artist (CHA), HSE Art and Design School, Moscow Design Museum and the Golden Bee Foundation for graphic design support and development.

The multimedia project by Russian designers will showcase ornaments characteristic of traditional Russian crafts via modern technology and digital innovations. Artem Shumov, NAIDAL, Lumier Garson, ZA_ZA, Saint-Tokyo and TURBO YULIA will present exclusive capsule collections. Specially for the Biennale 360° videos the runway shows by the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia's designers were created. Once inside the VR, the visitors of the display will be able to become fashion experts and evaluate the level of creativity of the designers. The guests will also see in 3D sketches of designer clothing.

In order to create the multimedia project of the Russian Fashion Council and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia Russian designers turned to the stylistics of the folk artistic crafts, thus manifesting a return to the origins of the Russian history and traditions and identify the Russian fashion. Image of each brand preserves national identity.

Saint-Tokyo's presentation look was inspired by the Pinezhsky folk festive costume. Artem Shumov had his inspiration in the diarchy of 1917, Lumier Garson used details from royal clothing and that of the priests from the times long past, ZA-ZA was inspired by traditional matryoshka and bodywarmer, NAIDAL by Abashevo toys and Shemogodsk birch bark carvings, while TURBO YULIA employed recycle techniques.

The curator of the Russian stand and installation will be Ekaterina Melnikova, a stylist and decorator, known for her decade-long cooperation with GQ magazine as its creative director. For the last five years Ekaterina has been the curator of a number of fashion displays held in the Moscow Museum of Modern Art and Multimedia Art Museum, as well as she curated a number of popular photo projects.

On April 13 at the First Moscow Design Biennale, which will be held at the CHA, executive president of the Russian Fashion Council, Alexander Shumsky, will give an expert lecture named Only Designers Will Survive: Image of the Fashion of Future. "One of the trends in design is to use local cultural heritage, search of inspiration in what in Russia is called folk artistic crafts. Another important trend is quite opposite, it is related to technology which has its impact on the aspect of a product, futurism is fashionable now," says Alexander Shumsky.

The First Moscow Design Biennale will showcase the latest achievements in design industry in a wide variety of fields. Such areas as industrial design, graphic design, information design, ambient design, fashion design, shopping spaces design, design in promotion and event design will be showcased. Workshops and lectures  are also included in the program of Biennale. Among the curators of the project are Vasily Bychkov, Tatyana Lifantieva, Alexander Matveev, Alexander Shumsky, Alexander Meshcheryakov, Vladimir Pirozhkov, Alexandra Sankova, Sergey Serov, Anton Stepanov.
