The worst regions in terms of quality of life in 2019 were Tuva, Karachay-Cherkessia and the Jewish Autonomous Region, according to a study conducted by RIA Novosti.
The Republic of Tuva closed the rating of the quality of life of the population in 85 Russian regions last year and the year before last. This year, North Ossetia, Buryatia, Kalmykia, Ingushetia, the Altai Republic, the Kurgan Region and the Trans-Baikal Territory were also included in the dozens of regions closing the rating. The authors of the rating note that these regions are characterized by a low level of socio-economic development and high unemployment and lag behind others in terms of income of residents.
The only region that managed to leave the top ten outsiders of the rating this year was Kabardino-Balkaria, which rose from 76 to 75 line in the list. North Ossetia fell from 65th to 79th place in the ranking over the year.
The best region in terms of quality of life in 2019 was Moscow. The first three included St. Petersburg and the Moscow region. Only in these three regions the combined score exceeds 70 points. Tatarstan, Belgorod Region, Krasnodar Territory, Voronezh, Leningrad and Kaliningrad Regions and Yugra also appeared in the top 10. Almost all of these regions were among the top 10 last year. Only the Leningrad region managed to rise from 11 to 8th line, replacing the Lipetsk region.
Experts note that the top ten regions of the rating account for almost 40% of the total GRP of Russian regions, retail turnover and investment in fixed assets. And in the coming years, the composition of the rating leaders is unlikely to change, due to the high potential for their further development.
In the middle of the list, only four regions improved their positions in more than five years: Sakhalin (rose from 46th to 34th line), Bryansk region (from 40th to 41st line), Krasnoyarsk Territory (from 49th to 38th) and Tomsk Region (from 51st to 54th). Seven regions worsened their positions, such as Magadan Oblast immediately lost 15 positions (it occupies 50th place in the list).
When compiling a rating of the quality of life of the population in the Russian regions, 70 indicators were taken into account, including incomes of the population, employment, life safety, housing conditions, demographic situation, ecology, level of development of small business, and so on. They used data from Rosstat, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and other open sources.
