The Highest Mountain Football Match

In honor of the beginning of the 50-day countdown before the beginning of the World Cup2018, the football legends of Russia and Sochi took part in an unusual match at an altitude of 2,064 m above the sea level.

A match on a football field made on the snow at the “Circus-2” special mountain climate zone at the “Gorki Gorod” resort was listed in the Russian Book of Records as the highest mountain football match.

Two teams – “The Legends of Russian Football” and “The Legends of Sochi Football” played two periods of 15 minutes each. The conditions were unusual for the players: snow instead of grass, it was difficult play the ball. “In the Soviet era we played everywhere: on sand, on snow, on pebbles, on asphalt. And everything was fine. There was a result. Therefore, there’s nothing wrong with playing on an improvised snow field. The final result is the most important,” Andrei Kanchelskis, the FIFA ambassador, one of the most renowned Soviet and Russian players, commented.

The snow field of 20 to 40 meters complied with the standards of the Russian Football Union. The famous Soviet football player and the ambassador of the World Cup in Sochi Evgeny Lovchev came to support the participants of the snow match.
