Snezhinsk is a town of regional value, a science town in the Chelyabinsk Region of Russia. It was founded on May 23, 1957. Until 1993 the town was named Kasli-2 (1957 — 1959), then Chelyabinsk-50 (1959 — 1966), and Chelyabinsk-70 (1967 — 1993). It got the status of a town on July 8, 1993.

The territory of municipality of Snezhinsk town includes the area of the town of Snezhinsk, the land of rural settlements, such as Blizhni Beregovoi, Sokol and Klyuchi Village.

Special regime is established in the town for providing safe functioning of the federal state unitary enterprise “Russian Federal Nuclear Center — the Academician E. I. Zababakhin All-Russian Research Institute of Technical Physics” in Snezhinsk.
