The economy of region is mainly focused on the fuel and energy industry. Two large-scale power plants are situated here. They are NPP of Balakovskaya and Saratovskaya water power plant, the total capacity of them is 4000 MW and 1360 MW respectively. Mechanic engineering in the region is represented by the aircraft works, trolleybus plant, railway engineering plant and some others, providing refrigerators, ball-bearings and heating plugs. Chemical and food industry play also not the last role in the economy of Saratov Region.
