Abaza is a Russian city of republican subordination in the Republic of Khakassia. The city of the Abaza forms a city district.
The city is located in an intermountain hollow, at the headwaters of the Abakan River, at the 179 km distance from the city of Abakan. It is surrounded with woody slopes of Kirs Ridge in the northwest and the Dzhoysky Ridge in the south and southeast.
The Askiz railroad station of the Krasnoyarsk Railroad connects Abaza to the line Novokuznetsk — Abakan. The highway Abakan — Ak-Dovurak runs across the city.
The major enterprises of the city are based on iron ore extraction. Extraction of iron ore is carried out in the mine at the 5 km distance from the city. There is an ore concentrating factory in Abaza. Iron ore is provided for the metallurgical enterprises of Novokuznetsk. Besides, the city has a meat-processing plant, a logging enterprise, and others.
