Abakan is a Russian city, the capital city of the Republic of Khakassia.
The city is located at the mouth of the Abakan River flowing into Yenisei, 3390 km to the east of Moscow and 400 km to the south of Krasnoyarsk.
The city takes the area of 112,38 sq km.
Abakan is located in the central part of Minusinsk Depression, at the height of 250 m above the sea level.
