St. Petersburg Museum of Theatre and Music Arts

St. Petersburg Museum of Theatre and Music Arts founded in 1918 is one of the largest theatre museums of the world. Its collection is unique from the viewpoint of historical coverage, diversity and the value of the exhibits. Over 450 000 relics feature the development of drama, opera, and ballet arts throughout the entire history of Russian theatre existence. Theatrical sketches by Lev Bakst, Alexander Benua, Alexander Golovin, Constantine Korovin, and Kazimir Malevich are side by side with authentic costumes of Emperors theatres and scenic dresses of Anna Pavlova, and Galina Ulanova. Among the central figures of the collection are genuine stars of theatre and music culture: Mikhail Glinka and Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov, Vsevolod Meyerhold and Vera Komissarzhevskaya, Marius Petipa and Vatslav Nizhinsky.

A unique collection of over 3000 music instruments is on a par with the collections of Metropolitan in New York and the Museum of Music in Paris.

The museum is also a venue for concerts of renowned Russian and foreign performers.
