    Village of Borisovka

The ancient village of Borisovka, 47km to the west from Belgorod, belonged to the famous Russian earl and field marshal Sheremetev. Borisovka was his family estate and center of icon painting and other artistic crafts. Sheremetev founded Borisovka hermitage of Virgin of Tikhvin. The Hermitage of Virgin of Tikhvin topping the hill by the Vorksla river was founded top commemorate the victory at Poltava in 1709. Before the battle started Sheremetev vowed a community of monks for the victory.

To the west from Borisovka visitors may see the ruins of an ancient estate of the 18th century, a beautiful park, the Transfiguration Church built in 1796, etc. Not far from this place you may also find ruins of one of the most thick fortress walls (1640) of Belgorod ramparts with several rows of water gangs and a single-dome classic style church in the center of the complex.
