Dixon is the northernmost village located on the Taymyr Peninsula. The locals call the village the center of the Western Arctic. Regardless its small size, Dixon has a well-developed infrastructure, industrial complex and even the local Lore Museum and the Rat Gallery.
The village emerged in 1915 as a Polar hydrometeorologic station. At present, there are over 30 stations and laboratories monitoring the environment and carrying out research throughout Western Arctic. Every day, meteorologists use current technology and satellites to provide aviators, fishermen and hunters with different information on weather conditions in the region.
