Novovoronezh is a town in the Voronezh Region of Russia. Its population makes 31 838 people (as of 2013).
Novovoronezh stands on the left bank of River Don, 55 km to the south of Voronezh. It has the Kolodeznaya railway station.
Novovoronezh takes the overall area of 46 sq.km.
History of Novovoronezh
It was founded in 1957 as the Novo-Gresovsky settlement (renamed into the Novovoronezhsky settlement the same year) due to construction of the New Voronezh nuclear power plant.
In May 1957 builders arrived there and laying a railroad line and a highway was started. It became an industrial community in 1958.
The first block of the New Voronezh nuclear power plant was put into operation in September 1964.
Novovoronezh has been a town since March 1987.
