Kursk Region is situated in the southwest of Russia. After the USSR collapsed, the geographical station of the region acquired a new status – the one of the border zone. In the east the region borders with Ukraine, in the northeast - with Bryansk region, in the north - with Oryol region, in the northeast - with Lipetsk region, in the east – with Voronezh region, in the south – with Belgorod region.
The climate of the region is about the same as anywhere in Central Russia – with rather cold winters and warm and sunny summers.
