Kurchatov is a Russian town (since 1983) in the Kursk Region.
It is located in the western part of the Central Russian Upland, on River Seim, 47 km to the west of Kursk.
The town has a railway station. The town with the overall territory 56 sq.km has the population of 47979 people (as for January 1, 2012).
History of Kurchatov
It was founded in 1968. It appeared due to construction of the Kursk nuclear power plant. In 1971 it became Kurchatov working settlement.
Kurchatov became town in 1983. It was named after the physicist academician I.V. Kurchatov (1903-60).
