Apsheronsk is a Russian town, the administrative center of the Apsheronsk District of the Krasnodar Krai.
The town with the population of 40 266 people (as of 2013) takes the area of 219 sq km.
It is located in Ciscaucasia and stands on the Pshekha River (inflow of River Kuban).
It has the Apsheronsk railway station.
In the vicinities of Apsheronsk there are thermal sources of iodine-bromine water.
History of Apsheronsk
It was founded in 1863 as a resettlement village under the camp of the Apsheronsk regiment of the Russian army. The regiment was named after the quartering place near the Apsheronsk port during the Persian campaign of the Peter the First in 1722-23. The village started to be called Apsheronsk after the regiment.
It became the industrial community of Apsheronsk in 1939 and the town of Apsheronsk in 1947.
Economy of Apsheronsk
In the town there is forestry and a timber industry enterprise (producing timber, plywood, veneer, parquet, containers, etc.). Apsheronsk has food enterprises, produces shop fittings and retail equipment, as well as music instruments. Processing of medicinal plants also takes place there.
In the Apsheronsk District there are plantations of wild chamomile, bur-marigold, pepper, mint and other medicinal herbs. Dairy and meat animal husbandry also plays some role in the economy of the district.
