History of Shilovo
In pre-Mongolian time it was the place of the Old Russian town of Nerinsk recorded in chronicles in 1147. In 1316 it was handed by the Ryazan princes over to the Shilovs family. In the late 14th century it was mentioned as Shilov town in The List of Ryazan Towns.
After the Ryazan Principality was attributed to the Moscow State a border line was built.
By the late 17th century Shilovo was already a settlement of 24 house yards. In the 14th —17th centuries Shilovo was a considerable grain pier on River Oka. The railroad laid through the settlement in 1893 promoted its development.
Shilovo became the center of the Shilovo District in 1929. It got the town status in 1938.
