Tver is the native city of Russia’s famous traveler and merchant Afanasiy Nikitin, well known for his "Voyage Over Three Seas," which marked the beginning of Russia’s trade relations with India.

The region is famous primarily for its unique nature resources. The mighty Volga runs through the region. Lake Seliger attracts tourists by its beauties and wonderful views. The source of the Volga River is located on the territory of the Tver region and is one of its major draws.
