    Tanais

Tanais is an ancient Greek colony located on the Don River. The city was founded in the 3rd century BC, and within a short period of time it became the biggest trade center between Greeks and the nomads of the steppes. At the turn of two cultures - Ancient Greek and Nomadic - a new original culture was born. Tanais was ruined in the middle of the 4th century AD by Gothic tribes.
