Otradny is a town (since 1956) in the Samara Region of Russia.
The town stands on the left bank of Bolshoy Kinel River (Samara's tributary) at the distance of 91 km from Samara. The population of Otradny is 49.1 thousand persons (as of 2005).
Climate there is acutely continental, with fast change from frosty winter to warm summer.
History of Otradny:
The town owns its foundation to the discovery of oil and gas pools in Mukhanovsky deposit in 1952. The town inherited its name after the ten-house Village of Otradnoye, which appeared there in the early 1920s. Rapid development of oil and gas industry led to the transformation of workers’ settlement Otradnoye into the town of regional subordination in 1956.
