Chaykovsky is a town in the Perm Territory, 325 km to the southwest of Perm. It is a river port on Kama (the Votkinsk Reservoir) and has a railway station named Saygatka.
In the vicinity of Chaykovsky town there are mountain-skiing and biathlon complexes.
The town takes the area of 2155 square km and has the population of 82 933 people (as of 2012), or 103 900 people together with subordinated settlements.
History of Chaykovsky
Chaykovsky was founded as a settlement in 1955 due to construction of the Votkinsk hydroelectric power station on Kama River near Saygatka Village (known since 1642). In 1956 it became a workers’ settlement and was named Chaykovsky.
Chaykovsky airport was put into operation in 1959. The first unit of Votkinsk hydroelectric power station gave industrial current in 1961.
In 1962 Chaykovsky became a town and the centre of Chaykovsky District.
The town was named after the great Russian composer P.I. Tchaikovsky (1840-93) who was born to Votkinsk, at the 40 km distance from Chaykovsky.
In December, 1964 the river station and port were put in operation.
In 1994 Chaykovsky District of the Perm Region was abolished.

Tourist attractions in Chaykovsky town include the Tchaikovsky Art Gallery, Chaykovsky Museum of Local Lore, the Architectural and Ethnographic Saygatka complex (a log hut of an Old Believer peasant), the Slavyansky Dvor (Slavic Yard) Estate in the family property of artists Pavel and Alexander Svedomskys.
