Amursk is a city in Russia, the administrative centre of Amursk Region of Khabarovsk Territory. The population of Amursk is 42 977 people (as of 2010).
The city is located in the northeast of Middle Amur Lowland, on River Amur, 328 km to the North of Khabarovsk, and 45 km to the south of Komsomolsk-na-Amure. The area of Amursk city is 316 sq. km.
History of Amursk
Amursk was founded as the Nanaian settlement Padali named after the nearby Lake Padali (i.e. “drying up” in Nanaian). In the 1950s building of cellulose industrial complex was started near Padali.
In 1958 the urban settlement Amursk was founded as an industrial satellite of Komsomolsk-na-Amure. It was named after the River Amur that it stands on. It became a city in 1973.
Sights of Amursk
Amursk lay-out is based on avenues running parallel to River Amur, with blocks of many-storeyed houses, with natural green parks. On the bank of Amur River there are beaches. Amursk has the Museum of Local Lore.
