Dno is an old Russian town in the Pskov Region. It is located in the Shelonsky Lowland, 113 km to the east of Pskov.
The town takes the area of 14 km and has the population of 8292 people (as of 2014).
History of Dno
It appeared as the railway station settlement Dno.
In 1897 there were 725 people living in the Dno Village of the Porkhovo District.
It has been a town since 1925. ‘Dno’ means ‘bottom’ in Russian and it is not clear why the town was named this way.
During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45 it was occupied by fascist armies on July 18, 1941. It was released on February 24, 1944 by armies of the Leningrad and the 2nd Baltic frontlines during the Leningrad and Novgorod operations.
