The town of Korolev (named Kaliningrad of the Moscow Region until July, 1996 -) is named after the outstanding scientist, academician Sergey Pavlovich Korolev - the founder of practical astronautics.

Korolev is a scientific town with an aerospace research-and-production complex.

So, the town is justly considered the centre of Russian astronautics. Here are the major enterprises of the Russian space branch, including the well-known Flights Control Centre and S. P. Korolev Rocket space corporation "Energy".

The population of Korolev is from 200 to 500 thousand inhabitants, according to different statistics.

Today the scientific town of Korolev is one of the most dynamically developing towns of the Moscow Region.
