Kostroma, capital of Kostroma Region, is located in Central (European) Russia at the bank of the Volga River, 340 km north east of Moscow. As a rule, the climate in central Russia is generally mild. Kostroma Region has a moderate continental climate with average temperatures ranging from -10°Ñ for January to 17°Ñ for July. Average annual precipitation is around 450-650 mm. Mixed forest covers 40% of the territory. Kostroma is fairly warm from about mid-May to early September. Serious snow arrives in December and stays till March/early April. So the best time to come to Central Russia is summer or early autumn (so called Indian Summer). You can enjoy remarkable scenery and old architecture surrounded by green or yellow trees without being disturbed by incredible frost or snow.
