Kostroma, capital of Kostroma Region, is located in Central (European) Russia at the bank of the Volga River, 340 km north east of Moscow. As a rule, the climate in central Russia is generally mild. Kostroma Region has a moderate continental climate with average temperatures ranging from -10°С for January to 17°С for July. Average annual precipitation is around 450-650 mm. Mixed forest covers 40% of the territory. Kostroma is fairly warm from about mid-May to early September. Serious snow arrives in December and stays till March/early April. So the best time to come to Central Russia is summer or early autumn (so called Indian Summer).
