Angarsk is a city in the Irkutsk Region of Russia, the administrative center of the Angarsk District.
Angarsk is situated in the southwest, the most economically developed part of the Irkutsk Region and borders with Irkutsk, Shelekhov, Usolsk and Bohansk Districts of the Irkutsk Region. Its population made around 234 thousand persons in the beginning of 2011.
The city of Angarsk in the Irkutsk Region is a river port and a railway station on the Trans-Siberian Railways. The highway Irkutsk – Krasnoyarsk passes through Angarsk. The city also has an airport.
Angarsk was founded in 1948 near Kitoy Settlement and received the status of a city in 1951. Modern Angarsk is one of the largest centers of Irkutsk-Cheremkhovo industrial area.
