The museum is included into top 5 mineralogical museums in Russia. It houses more than 1500 minerals, gradually collected by the teachers and students of Irkutsk State Technological University (former Irkutsk Polytechnic College) since 1930. The unique collection also represents some rare exhibits, such as mono crystal apatite (65 kg), phlogopite (74 kg), specular stone mono crystal 2 meters in diameter, the only in the world 2 tons jade rock, charoit gems.
