Rasputin's birthplace, village of Pokrovskoe

The village of Pokrovskoe was the birthplace of one of the most mysterious and frightening figures in Russian history - Tsar's Nicholas II favorite. Rasputin is known as the Siberian mystic healer, whose life is still considered very mysterious.

His birthplace and home was the village of Pokrovskoe, Tyumen region. Located in Siberia, Pokrovskoe can be found on the Toura River and is not far from the Ural Mountains. In the late 1800's, when Rasputin lived in Pokrovskoe, the village had only a few streets, lined with spacious wooden houses. Depending on a family's wealth, the houses were either one or two stories. Now, you may see the village that preserved early 20th century atmosphere and look. The houses are decorated with ornate carving, as well as with painted beams and window frames. At the village's center stands a large white church with a gilded dome, a symbol of Russia's strong religious history.
