Other characteristic traits of the Kenozerski National park are formed by ancient villages with old wooden houses and churches. The park’s complex of Russian wooden architecture is one of priceless examples of cultural heritage preserved for many centuries. The villages charm by their old houses with painted shutters, curved windows and decorations.
Among another attractions of the park are famous “sacred groves”, where still can be observes remains of pagan sacred places. These small forests are carefully preserved by local people and it is prohibited to chop woods here. There are more than 30 such groves on the territory of the park, the concentration hardly be found somewhere else in the world.
