 Sergey  Volkov

Russian astronaut

Sergey Volkov is a second generation astronaut, who has two missions, extravehicular activities, and hundreds of hours spent in zero gravity behind him. And he is just in his early forties! He dreams of flying to the Moon, and he will probably make it true!
Having spent his childhood on Baikonur, Sergey Volkov knew firsthand about his future profession. His father, the astronaut Alexander Volkov, was not happy about the vocational choice of his son and found it out only after reading the official report with a request for enrolment in the team of cosmonauts. This is how the first ever dynasty of astronauts, such a risky profession, came into being. For ethical reasons the astronaut Volkov Sr. reported a request for being transferred to the reserve, to make way for his son, Volkov Jr.
Thus, we have three spacemen, three destinies and one surname. It is a reminder for those interested in the history of the Soviet and Russian astronautics: Vladislav Volkov was the astronaut of "the first order" enlisted in the team of 1966, Alexander Volkov made his first space flight in the mid 1980s, and his son Sergey Volkov started space exploration in the third millennium. In addition to that, there is also the research vessel Astronaut Volkov, which provides satellite contacts. Selectors created a tomato brand named after Vladislav Volkov, and astronomers named a star after him. All that was in honor of the first generation space hero, but names of the following generations of Russian astronauts may quite as well shine in the starry sky of planetaria and astronomical maps.
