 George Loukomski

Russian historian, art critic and artist

      

 

A descendant of the Loukomski princely dynasty and the brother of the genealogist V. K. Loukomski, he attended a private art schools in Kazan and then graduated from the Architecture Faculty of the Arts Academy. The artist traveled across the Western Europe, Russia and Ukraine to study ancient architecture. From 1908 he was a prolific contributor of art criticism articles in the journals Old Years, The Architect, Capital City and Estate, Apollo, etc.

George Loukomski’s main works are dedicated to architecture of the Russian cities, i.e. On Fine Architecture of the Province, Vologda in its Antiquity, Old St. Petersburg, Monuments of Russia’s Ancient Architecture, Modern Petrograd, Ancient Estates of the Kharkov Province, Tsarskoye Selo, and the like.

After the February Revolution the artist joined Special Committee on Arts. In 1918 he moved to Ukraine, and then migrated to Paris. George Loukomski went on his active work actively as an artist and art critic in the West. In particular, he had his books about the Russian architecture published: Russisches Porzellan, Russische Baukunst, etc.
 
The artist lived in London from 1940. George Loukomski died in Nice in 1952.
