Dmitri Hvorostovsky was born on October 16, 1962 into the family of a chemist in Krasnoyarsk. From early childhood he listened to opera music from the collection of his father, who sometimes played music and sang.  Dmitri finished A.M. Gorky Teachers’ Training College in Krasnoyarsk and entered the Krasnoyarsk Institute of Arts. He was a soloist of the Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre. A winner of all-Union and international festivals and competitions, he took the 1st prize at the All-Union Glinka Contest of Singers in 1987 and the Grand Prix of the Toulouse International Singers’ Contest in 1988.  A year later Dmitri became the winner at the BBC television competition Singer of the World and took the only prize and title as The Best Voice.

Dmitry Hvorostovsky is the famous performer of lead parties in the classical operas Eugene Onegin, Queen of Spades, Bride of the Tsar, Traviata, Rigoletto, The Puritans, Marriage of Figaro, Don Juan, The Barber of Seville, Faust, and others... However, the singer himself gives preference to the composer Giuseppe Verdi. On May 9, 2005 he was invited to sing in the State Kremlin Palace in honor of the 60th anniversary since the Victory Day, and later toured around Russian cities with the program Songs of Military Years.

Since 1990 Dmitry Hvorostovsky has been performing on stages of the world’s best opera theaters, such as the Royal Opera House — Covent Garden (London), Bavarian State Opera, Munich State Opera, Berlin State Opera, Teatro alla Scala (Milan), Vienna State Opera, Teatro Colon (Buenos Aires), Metropolitan Opera (New York), Chicago Lyric Opera, the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, the New Opera Theater in Moscow, the opera stage of the Salzburg Festival, and others. At the same time he supports young music collectives, such as the Baltic Symphonic Orchestra.

The outstanding musician and one of the best baritones of our time, Dmitri Hvorostovsky performs a lot presently and tries new lines of roles, with his discography including over 40 albums already.
