In the 1890s he studied at the Law, History and Philology Faculties of the Moscow University. He joined the same creative circle as his brother, and participated in the Blue Rose exhibition (1907), as well as the exhibitions of The Union of Russian Artists and The World of Art.
 

He illustrated the journals Vesy and Zolotoye Runo (1906-1909) and worked as an art critic in the latter one. 

 

In 1906 he debuted as the stage designer for V. E. Meyerhold's stage production based on Ibsen’s play Hedda Gabler.

 

The style of Vassily Millioti as compared to the manner of his elder brother is even more fantastic and irreal in its subjects, and miniature decorative in painting that reminds of peacock like ornaments.

 

Unexpectedly he left art and Moscow in 1909. Instead, he worked as a criminal investigator in northern provinces. During the October revolution he returned to his hometown and resorted to painting and graphic art. However, after several years of the vigorous public work (including his participation in the Commission on Purchasing Paintings for the Moscow Museum Fund) he lived an isolated life (from 1927) and did not take part in any exhibitions.

 

The artist created a series of illustrations to Alexander Pushkin’s poem A Feast in Time of Plague in 1927. He still painted romantically florid, fairy miniatures, as well as paintings based on classical literature and music. These works demonstrated by him only to a narrow circle of his friends, side with both silent and informal art.
