 Mikhail Kozhukhov

Born:   16 December 1956

Kozhukhov Mikhail is an international TV journalist and traveller.

The international TV journalist and traveller Mikhail Kozhukhov is perhaps one of the most famous contemporary Russian travellers. He is smart, can speak three foreign languages, and always turns his TV programmes into interesting shows and master-class.

Mikhail’s life is full of unexpected changes. He graduated from the Institute of Foreign Languages, Spanish department of interpreter faculty; later he took up the proposal of working as a correspondent of the newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda in Afghanistan, and as a correspondent of the newspaper Novye Izvestia in South America. Once he was even offered the job of the Prime Minister’s press-secretary, but after working there for a while Mikhail Kozhukhov left the Kremlin and started working as the presenter of the TV programme In Search of Adventures, which let him win a high TV prize TEFI.

According to Mikhail Kozhukhov, he was chosen by the profession of journalist. His mother, Galina Kozhukhova, is a journalist and theatricologist, and the only things Mikhail could hear as a child and teenager were talks about newspapers and theatre. There are many famous people amongst his friends; his guitar which cost 7 roubles and 50 kopeks was played by such musicians as Vladimir Vysotsky and Bulat Okudzhava.

The ethnic-travel programme In Search of Adventures has gained popularity with millions of Russian people. The programme, a documentary film series, is a story about the main character’s travelling around the world. In every visited country the presenter tries to find a profession which doesn’t exist elsewhere in the world, or has some specific peculiarities in the native country. Sometimes, to get the full idea of the profession, the presenter Mikhail Kozhukhov has to contribute a lot of efforts and practically participate in work of this or that master.

In the course of such “studies” the TV audience can learn the life history of professionals and the reasons which had once motivated them to master this profession. Masters also tell the presenter about the peculiarities of their work and sometimes even share some “secrets” of the profession.

Apart from trying new jobs and professions, the presenter of the programme also lets the audience get acquainted with aborigines` customs, national clothing, and often tries to master cooking one of the local national dishes. Each programme presents incredible people or unexpected adventures, and also funny moments which occur during trips from one place to another, and which usually are not shown to the TV audience.

“Physically it is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do”, - Mikhail Kozhukhov admits. However, he marks that working as a presenter of a travel TV programme is easier than being the Prime Minister’s press-secretary, as you do not have to step over some of your principles.

To shoot In Search of Adventures it is needed to “live” on planes. Mikhail Kozhukhov and his TV team usually return back to their motherland for 5-7 days, and then go on a business-trip again. They all have 2 passports with each empty page valued like gold, because new visa stamps appear in their passports so often.
