 Lev Yudin

Lev Aleksandrovich Yudin was born in Vitebsk in 1903. His mother taught him cutting paper silhouettes of various animals while playing games with children.
As a school pupil yet Lev Yudin started attending the art studio of Kazimir Malevich and then studied at the art institute under the renowned artist. In 1922 Lev Yudin followed his teacher and moved to Petrograd.
In Petrograd he studied in VKHUTEMAS (the Higher State Art and Technical Studios) (1922-1923), and participated in exhibitions from 1920. In 1923 Lev Yudin became a teacher at the State Institute of Art Culture. He worked together with Kazimir Malevich. In the late 1920s- 1930s he joined the group of painting and sculpture realism together with V. Yermolaeva, V. Sterligov, and K. Rozhdestvensky. He was a member of the Union of Artists from 1932.
Lev Yudin was lost in the Leningrad frontline, in his very first fight in 1941. Being an artist he had a reservation that allowed him avoid the army and yet he believed that he had no right to use it when his hometown was surrounded and attacked by enemies.
