He was an illustrious songwriter and singer, film actor, journalist, writer and scriptwriter.

      

Vizbor was an illustrious songwriter and singer, film actor, journalist, writer and scriptwriter. One of the founders of author’s song genre in Russia, he created over 400 songs.

Vizbor Yuri Iosifovich was born in Moscow on June 20, 1934. He graduated the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature of the Lenin Moscow State Teachers’ Training Institute in 1955. He served the army in the North and then worked as a teacher there as well. Afterwards Yuri Vizbor was a correspondent of the radio station Yunost’ and the magazine Krugozor. He also worked as a scenarist at a documentary film studio.

Yuri Vizbor In 1951 he started composing songs, most of them to his own lyrics. Vizbor was very much keen on hiking and mountaineering: he took part in serious expeditions and was an Alpine skiing instructor. This passion reverberates in the creation of Yuri Vizbor, one of the most popular authors of tourist songs. He died on September 17, 1984 in Moscow.
