Writer, poet, corresponding member of St. Petersburg Academy of Science (1860).

      

A master of the word and psychological analyses Ivan Turgenev produced a considerable impact on the development of Russian and world literature.

In the series of short stories Sketches from a Hunter's Album (1847-52) Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev portrayed high spiritual qualities if the Russian peasant and poetry of nature. His social and psychological novels Rudin (1856), A Nest of the Gentry (1859), On the Eve (1860), and Fathers and Sons (1862), as well as the stories Asya (1858), and Torrents of Spring (1872) present vivid characters of the passing culture of the nobility and the new heroes of his epoch - the commonalty and democrats, as well as images of selfless Russian women. In the novels Smoke (1867) and Virgin Soil (1877) Turgenev depicted life of the Russians abroad and Russian populist movement in this country. on the verge of life he created lyrical and philosophical Poems in Prose (1882).
