Vyacheslav Vyacheslavovich Sysoev was born on October 30, 1937 in Moscow. He did not get vocational art education. Till 1975 he worked as a model maker in an art workshop. From 1975 he participated as a caricaturist in informal uncensored exhibitions in Moscow and Leningrad. From 1976 his drawings came to be published in the West. The year 1983 saw the publication of the artist’s first album in Paris.

In 1978 Vyacheslav Sysoyev a criminal case was brought against and he was hiding for a few years.  In 1983 he was arrested and sentenced to two years of prison camps under the article “pornography distribution”.  The artist was released from prison in 1985. 
Since the art by Sysoyev was claimed to be anti-Soviet, his works were not published in the USSR until 1987. 
In 1989 the artist emigrated to Germany (Berlin). In 2004 his album Walk Slow and Talk Low: Notes from the Underground was published and gained popularity in Russia.
Vyacheslav Sysoyev died in 2006 in Berlin.
