Lyubov Sergeyevna Sokolova was born on July 31, 1921 in the town of Ivanovo-Voznesensk. In 1946 she graduated from the All-Union State Cinematography Institute, where she participated in the B. Bibikov and O. Pyzhova's Studio. In 1951-1956 she was an actress of the Drama Theater of Soviet Armies Group in Germany (Potsdam). In 1946-1951 and from 1956 she was also an actress of the Film Actor Theatre Studio. 

Lyubov Sokolova made her film debut in 1948 in the movie The Story of a Real Man. A much-in-demand actress, she played over 200 roles cinema, including Quiet Flows the Don, Live Till Monday, Belarusian Station, and Gentlemen of Fortune. She became the winner of the All-Union Film Festival in the nomination Best Actors Prizes of 1983.

In autumn of 1994 Lyubov Sokolova and Maya Bulgakova got into a terrible accident — their car taking them to a concert, crashed into a column. Both the actresses found themselves in reanimation. Lyubov Sokolova was discharged from hospital in a few weeks, but Maya Bulgakova died after several days without regaining consciousness.

Lyubov Sokolova died of a heart attack on June 6, 2001 and was laid down to rest at the Kuntsevsky Cemetery in Moscow.
