Leonid (Veniamin) Vladimirovich Soifertis was born in a Jewish borough in Ukraine. In 1930 he moved to Moscow. 

The future artist studied under P.I. Lvov, M.S. Rodionov, and A.A. Radakov. In 1934 he joined Union of Artists of the USSR and became a permanent contributor of the Crocodile comic magazine.

Leonid Soifertis became known as the author of drawings in Soviet periodicals. During the Great Patriotic War he was a contributor of a front newspaper, and took part in defense of Odessa and Sevastopol. Eventually he entered Berlin with the Soviet army.

From the 1960s he worked as an illustrator, was one of the authors of drawings in the Crocodile comic magazine. In 1965 he created drawings for the movie Hostile Whirlwinds.

Leonid Soifertis’ works are kept in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, and the Kiev Museum of Russian Art.
