Soviet Russian artist, classic of Moscow conceptualism, founder of Russian photo-based art.
Eduard Semyonovich Gorokhovsky was born on June 12, 1929 in the town of Vinnytsa.
In 1954 he graduated from the Odessa Building Institute majoring in architecture. His first teachers in painting, drawing, and history of arts were A.Postel, T.Frayerman, G. Gotgelf, and A.Kopylov.
For the first time he participated in an official exhibition of the Novosibirsk Union of Artists in 1955. In 1968 he became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. In 1973 Eduard Gorokhovsky moved from Novosibirsk to Moscow. From 1974 he took part in informal, semi-official and official exhibitions in the USSR and abroad.
Along with Ilya Kabakov and Viktor Pivovarov the artist is considered to be one of the classics of the so-called Moscow conceptualism.
From 1991 he lived and worked in Offenbach, Germany.
