Soviet and Russian theater and film actress, the People’s Artiste of the USSR

      

Alisa Freindlich was born on December 8, 1934 into the family of actors in Leningrad. Her father was the actor Bruno Freindlich. Therefore no wonder that from her childhood Alisa dreamed of the theatre stage. At school she participated in amateur performances by a school drama club. The club conductress Maria Alexandrovna Sokolova coached the girl a lot and helped her to be prepared for institute. In 1953 Alisa Freindlich entered the Leningrad Theatre Institute. Upon graduation Alisa Freindlich was admitted to the Leningrad V.F.Komissarzhevskaya Theater. A year later she debuted in cinema with the film The City Lights Up.

In 1961 the actress started working at the Lensovet Theater and soon became its leading actress. She performed the leading roles in plays by William Shakespeare, Bertolt Brecht, and Bernard Show. In 1983 Alisa Freindlich shifted to the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater, on the stage of which she still continues to play magnificently, as one of the leading actresses.



No less successful has been her career in cinema: the filmography of Alisa Freindlich enlists about fifty movies, including: Striped Voyage, Straw Hat, Office Romance, Three Musketeers, The Stalker, Dangerous Age, Success, In Verkhnyaya Maslovka, Woman’s Reason, Musketeers Return, and lots of others. The People’s Artist of the USSR Alisa Freindlich is the winner of four State Awards of the Russian Federation, the holder of two national theatre awards Gold Mask (2001, 2006) and two Nika awards of the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts (1994, 2005), as well as prizes of numerous international film festivals.

The actress was married three times, and with her second husband gave birth to their daughter Varvara (born in 1968).
